Hyperstation – a temporary Internet café
The draft concept enclosed a gastronomy unit, a chill-out zone and – in the inner part – an Internet café.
Occasion: Hessentag 2001 – Duration: 14 days
Following the draft, the use of containers was planned as the basis. Changeable modularly and in the short-term, which did prove to have made sense, as – out of cost reasons – the café had to be cancelled.
The containers were delivered on trucks 6m x 2.5m and each positioned with the help of a crane.
Standard containers found their use and could be installed within a day’s time.
Due to the limited budget, the draft concept was adapted to the cost frame. Four containers created a room of ca. 60 square meters.
Due to the corrugated sheet iron-covered façade, a revolving Perspex strip and stretched sails, the containers had a futuristic look.
As the emblem of “section @” the Hyperstation was delineated by a sign which was twirled by the wind. In addition a pseudo-fire windchime was installed.
In the inner part eight Internet terminals were installed. A colourful, light atmosphere for children was created by means of coloured fluorescent tubes.
The kids accepted the offer euphorically and queued up in the mornings eager to enter.
At nights the sails and containers were illuminated, and became a special eye catcher.
